Biology is the most scoring section of NEET for a single reason: NCERT is the question paper. Analyses of recent papers consistently find 85–90% of Biology questions traceable directly to NCERT lines — and not just the main text. Footnotes, table entries, diagram labels and even example names have become MCQs.
This changes what "short notes" should mean. Notes that replace NCERT will fail you, because the examiner quotes NCERT, not your summary. Notes that index and compress NCERT — so you can revise the whole book in 3 hours instead of 30 — are what actually move your score. How to make short notes that actually work
Tables beat paragraphs. NEET Biology tests rows: gland→hormone→disorder, enzyme→substrate→product, organism→classification→example. If your notes are paragraphs, you're storing information in a format the exam never asks for.
Note the exception, not the rule. "Mitochondria have their own DNA" is worth writing. "Mitochondria produce energy" is not — you already know it. Short notes should carry only what your brain drops: exact numbers (10 bp per turn), odd examples, and the one-off exceptions NCERT hides in a footnote.
Every number gets its own line. 70S vs 80S ribosomes, −70 mV resting potential, 10% energy transfer, 2 nm DNA width, TV 500 mL. NEET loves numbers because they're unambiguous to mark — and they're exactly what students blur under pressure.
Revise in the 3-2-1 rhythm. Read NCERT once properly, make short notes as you go, then revise notes only — 3 days after, 2 weeks after, and again in the final month. Most aspirants re-read NCERT four times and never build recall; the notes exist so revision four is 3 hours, not 3 weeks.
Test yourself with the book closed. After each chapter, write down what you remember, then check. What you missed is what your notes should contain. Notes copied from NCERT teach nothing; notes built from your own gaps are worth ten times more.
